Our seniors have chalked up their first meaningful win for the year, thumping Port Adelaide last Saturday afternoon to the tune of 75 points. This weekend, the seniors face off against North Melbourne whilst our VFL side – stacked with new faces – is set to kick off their season down at Frankston Oval against…
Month: March 2011
For Passion Or Profession
As fortunate as we are to be Collingwood supporters, we’re equally fortunate to follow a sporting code that has measures in place to promote competitive equality. From the salary cap to the manner in which draft choices are distributed, I’m thankful that the AFL understands the necessity of not only balancing the league in the…
[Round 1 Review] Collingwood Vs. Port Adelaide
It was very much a mixed bag at Etihad Stadium yesterday, with the match ultimately being decided by two 10 minute periods of dominance from the Magpies. Amongst these bursts were scrappy passages of play and periods where – to their credit – Port Adelaide got the better of us. As we would have expected, the boys are probably a little while off hitting top form, but as we saw throughout the NAB Cup and again yesterday, when they do step it up a notch they are virtually impossible to stop.
[Round 1 Preview] Collingwood Vs. Port Adelaide
And so it begins.
I’m reluctant to look at 2011 as a premiership defence as it goes against the basic drive that made our 2010 premiership possible. It was the unprecedented intensity, the perpetual hunting of the ball and player that was eventually dubbed “the swarm” as the game plan took shape, which made Collingwood so formidable last year. There is no room for being reactionary as we take the first steps on our march to October and I expect that the mindset of the club would be no different against Port Adelaide tomorrow than it was during last year.

The deal will see Swan signed until the end of the 2014 season, which would just about guarantee that Swan remains…
