On the eve of our grand final clash with Geelong – and likely to be my final piece until the result is known – I present something of an ode to this great club of ours. The moment we’ve been waiting all year for is upon us, an opportunity to go back-to-back. So here’s to you Collingwood and all my fellow supporters who will be riding every second tomorrow afternoon — side by side!
Month: September 2011
Final Teams: Beams Out, Fasolo In
The final teams have been announced, with Geelong opting to go into the grand final unchanged whilst Dayne Beams has selflessly declared himself unfit to take the field, making way for youngster Alex Fasolo.
[Grand Final Preview] Collingwood Vs. Geelong
All year I’ve been waiting and hoping that I would get to write this preview. As reigning premiers, the bar is set so high that only a reappearance in the grand final the following year could be considered adequate. It has been a tumultuous journey over the last month, with one major disappointment in the final round (not the loss, but the manner and margin) and some heart stopping moments throughout our September campaign.
[Preliminary Final Review] Collingwood Vs. Hawthorn
We were spoiled at this stage last year, that much is immediately clear. I say that purely from the perspective of a supporter who – like many of you I’m sure – cannot separate himself emotionally from this incredible football club. My vital organs react quite violently to the tensions that close games create and on Friday night, I think I may have broken any record that might exist for pulse rates.
All-Australian Pies
The All-Australian squad for 2011 was named earlier this week, sporting solid black-and-white representation with six Magpies selected. Not only selected, but named amongst the starting line-up, appearing on every line.
Ben Reid and Leon Davis were named in the back line; Pendlebury and Thomas within the midfield; with Travis Cloke holding centre half forward and Dane Swan – as often happens with midfielders – named on a forward flank.

[Qualifying Final Review] Collingwood Vs. West Coast
After finishing the home and away season in less than desirable fashion, plenty of Collingwood supporters would have entered yesterday’s qualifying final against the Eagles with some apprehension. The Eagles were coming off a confidence boosting smashing of the Crows in front of a fanatical home crowd, with the opportunity to secure a home preliminary final against a team who many in the media thought were beginning to fray.
[Qualifying Final Preview] Collingwood Vs. West Coast
It has been a tough week for Magpie fans, having to endure the jibes from opposition fans after a rare embarrassing loss. Having it occur in the last round leading into finals also didn’t help matters. The wheels keep moving however and the time has come. We’ve been waiting all year for September and it…
