As I write this, much like many of you who peruse the blog this black and white soul of mine is battered and bruised. As such, I apologise in advance if what follows is more tangential than cohesive…

The Week, The Weekend
Before touching on our ever important clash this weekend, there’s been a few developments in Magpie land this week that warrant mention. The stand out of course is fan favourite Chris Tarrant, who announced earlier in the week that he would be retiring at season’s end. Tarrant has spent the majority of his career in the black-and-white despite a stint at Fremantle; he’ll well and truly finish his career at home where he belongs, a Magpie if ever I saw one.
[VFL Round 21 Review] Collingwood Vs. Casey
Our second last game for the year, as our VFL Pies will not be contesting finals once again this year, saw us take on the third placed Casey Scorpions back at Victoria Park. It was a familiar story for VFL watchers, with the Pies being competitive for patches before eventually being steamrolled. The damage was…
[Round 21 Review] Collingwood Vs. North Melbourne
During the week, I mentioned how North Melbourne shaped as a team who could trouble us with their current form and speed of ball movement. There were some similarities between the Kangaroos and the likes of Hawthorn and Carlton, but I had hoped that maybe we might have learned something – or at least found…
[Round 21 Preview] Collingwood Vs. North Melbourne
On the back of what was a stirring victory north of the border, our Magpies are now faced with a hurdle that in recent years we’ve not even bothered negotiating by air, instead just bowling it over with contempt, winning the event by some distance all the same. This year that task is bound to…
[Round 20 Review] Collingwood Vs. Sydney
Like many of you out there, I’m far too elated to sleep and as such, decided to reverse the trend on my often tardy reviews and get this one up immediately. Having witnessed perhaps our best victory since our clash against Adelaide earlier in the year – a game that I had to watch after the fact – it goes without saying that I’m a proud Pie right now.
Tonic For Our Troubles
The spirit and faith of our supporters has been tested somewhat this year. We were shaken up early in the year through an almost unheard of spate of season ending injuries, followed by shorter term injuries to pivotal players, then topped off with two defeats to the old enemy in Carlton along with our most…
[Round 19 Review] Collingwood Vs. St Kilda
Once again, in the wake of another victory, a lot of us are no doubt dealing with some conflicting feelings about our performance. We were lucky to escape with four points as opposed to just two in the end, but that luck is only in the context of a single decision in the end. A…
[Round 19 Preview] Collingwood Vs. St Kilda
It has been a weird sort of season so far — tumultuous at times, promising at others. The early portents of how our luck might be shaping up this year were ominous to say the least; losing two players to ACL injuries before the season had properly started, soon to lose another two during its…
Round 18 Review: MagpieBat Edition
Having been a little strapped for time last week, a few of the regular heads on this blog grew a little concerned that maybe I’d fallen victim to some foul play and in response, wisely unleashed the bat signal into the Abbotsford skies – illuminating the commission housing buildings that dominate the skyline, easily visible…
